§ 2008q–1 - Grants to improve supply, stability, safety, and training of agricultural labor force

CHAPTER 50— AGRICULTURAL CREDIT › SUBCHAPTER IV— ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS

(a) In this section, the term “eligible entity” means an entity described in section 2008q(a) [Fn: See References in Text note below.] of this title.
(b)(1) To assist agricultural employers and farmworkers by improving the supply, stability, safety, and training of the agricultural labor force, the Secretary may provide grants to eligible entities for use in providing services to assist farmworkers who are citizens or otherwise legally present in the United States in securing, retaining, upgrading, or returning from agricultural jobs.
(b)(2) The services referred to in paragraph (1) include—
(b)(2)(A) agricultural labor skills development;
(b)(2)(B) the provision of agricultural labor market information;
(b)(2)(C) transportation;
(b)(2)(D) short-term housing while in transit to an agricultural worksite;
(b)(2)(E) workplace literacy and assistance with English as a second language;
(b)(2)(F) health and safety instruction, including ways of safeguarding the food supply of the United States; and
(b)(2)(G) such other services as the Secretary determines to be appropriate.
(c) Not more than 15 percent of the funds made available to carry out this section for a fiscal year may be used to pay for administrative expenses.
(d) There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section—
(d)(1) such sums as are necessary for each of fiscal years 2008 through 2013; and
(d)(2) $10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2014 through 2018.

Section was enacted as part of the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, and not as part of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act which comprises this chapter.

Amendments

2014—Subsec. (d). Pub. L. 113–79 amended subsec. (d) generally. Prior to amendment, text read as follows: “There are authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out this section for each of fiscal years 2008 through 2012.”
